Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to

  • Understand the role of public policy and decision making processes in agricultural, environmental, and natural resource management systems both domestically and globally.
  • Articulate the influence of macroeconomic policy, world economy, and international trade on US agriculture and their implications for sustainability.
  • Understand the US governmental system – including local, state, and federal political systems, and the roles of interest groups, political parties, legislatures, and courts – in contrast to at least one other national system.
  • Articulate the role of US and transnational corporations and nongovernmental organizations involved in food, agricultural, and environmental issues.
