Crop and Livestock Production and Protection

Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to

  • Understand cropping system components, such as plant growth and development, soil fertility and structure, soil health, and pest management (weeds, pathogens, and insects).
  • Understand livestock system components, such as animal growth and development, animal nutrition and feeding, animal diseases, and animal welfare.
  • Analyze the interactions of crop and livestock system components in industrial and alternative agricultural systems.
  • Develop a holistic, science-based perspective of an agroecosystem, recognizing that an agroecosystem is influenced by biological and social factors.
  • Describe, quantify, and model the water, energy, carbon, biogeochemical (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium) cycles for an individual farm.
